Principal Engineer | Cape Town, Western Cape Location: Cape Town (Western Cape) Department: Engineering Reports to: Executive Head of Engineering

About the role Our client is looking for a Principal Engineer to be the custodian of its engineering assets in the Western Cape. You will make sure all assets and buildings in the region are maintained, controlled and operated to the required specifications. You will also lead the regional engineering team and carry accountability for engineering functions and assets under the contract.

Minimum requirements:  B-Tech (Engineering) / BSc (Engineering) /. BEng.  PrEng /. PrTech Candidate GCC Factories. Minimum 7 years’ experience in electrical or mechanical engineering. Minimum 5 years’ experience in facilities management. Experience managing engineering teams, including performance management and development. Experience in asset management, maintenance planning and root cause failure analysis. Experience working to contractual service standards and client specifications. Valid code B driver’s license and willingness to travel within the Western Cape.

Key responsibilities: Act as custodian of the engineering assets in the region. Ensure all assets receive the necessary life cycle and enhancement services. Ensure assets are controlled and operated to the required operational specifications. Ensure all engineering services are efficiently and effectively maintained and controlled at all times, in line with the client's specifications in the applicable agreements. Take full legal responsibility and accountability for all engineering functions and assets in the region related to the contract. Implement maintenance and operational standards that comply with the specified service standards. Report on the status of assets and buildings in the region. Manage and implement innovation and other initiatives to improve availability, reliability and asset life cycle. Manage the regional engineering staff, including performance measurement and development.
